Established by Jill Robinson in 1998, Animals Asia Foundation is an animal welfare charity that protects the wild and domesticated animals and endangered species of Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Animals Asia mostly focuses on two major issues: bear farming and the dog and cat meat trade.
Under the organization's End Bear Farming program, Animals Asia aims to eliminate the demand for bear bile in Asia by promoting cruelty-free options. With bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam, Animals Asia has rescued 350 bears to date, as well as worked with the Chinese government and conservation and forestry leaders to make 20 out of 31 Chinese provinces bear farm-free.
Through the Friends or Food campaign, Animals Asia plans to end the consumption of dogs and cats in Asia, while the Dr. Dog program enlists the help of over 250 registered therapy canines to spread love and cheer to people at orphanages, hospitals, schools, and disability centers.
With the well-being of all animals as its top priority, Animals Asia adopts a non-partisan and ethical approach when dealing with governments, authorities, and communities to come up with long-term solutions for everyone involved.
